Murdoch is the biggest Thomas engine available for Tomy Thomas TrackMaster / Road and Rail. The battery goes in the coal tender at the back and the engine is pushed along. This means that some of the track accessories such as cranky which are driven by the wheels of the train are a bit further back than they should be but does mean that the train pushes along nicely. This is in contrast to Tomy Thomas Track Master Gordon Train which has the battery in the back but driving wheels at the front and doesn't go up hills properly.
So with this limitation in mind Murdoch is the very best large engine available to the system. Better than Gordon and Spencer anyway because it actually works.
Until I bought my son a "Bullet Train" this was his favourite train for over a year.

The trackmaster trains have a lot more for an older child than the wooden ones, but my boy was a little disapointed the coupling rods did not move on this train, their is always one.
