5 out of 5 stars A real boy   July 4, 2010
Christina
A fantastic read, my husband and I both enjoyed it, we also bought another copy for our Social worker, this book could have been written by us about our Son Ross who is also severly autistic, and like the couple in the book he is our world and we will stop at nothing to get the best possible care and education for Ross. This book was written with such love and humour it had me laughing and crying, well done.

This is a very good insight into autism, its opened my eyes to this condition. This would be an excellent read for anyone with an autistic child. Chris and Nicky tell a lovely story of outstanding patience with their very active son. They both have a very good sense of humour and seem to see the funny side of what life throws at them.
An incident in their car in chapter 9 got me laughing so much that tears were running down my face, I even had my husband laughing at what I was reading out to him. Yes, there are lots of laughs and also some tears in this very moving story. I have enjoyed this book very much. Highly recommendable to everyone.

I don't often take the time to write reviews but really wanted to write this as a thank you to the authors, David's parents. I work with families affected by autism and as such have read plenty of 'textbook' accounts. However, these don't capture the harsh realities that face many families. David's parents have taken the time to write about the difficulties they have faced but also about the joy and love they have for their child. This isn't a book with a cure or a happy ending but it still managed to make me smile as well as feel the despair of the David's parents when continuously faced with challenges and barriers. It is an account that will stay with me and I hope help me to work with a greater understanding. Thanks to Christopher and Nicky for sharing your story.

Of all the books I have read on this subject the most informative and relatable are those written with first hand experience - By Parents and Carers. This one was written with honesty, warmth and love - just as it should be.

I really enjoyed reading this book and the deeper insight into autism it provided. I appreciated the honest account given by the author of the difficulties they experienced during diagnosis, attending playgroups and finding support. It is also filled with descriptions of those little autistic behaviour stories that make you smile :)
