Fantastic August 13, 2010 MewMew This book is a great read for anyone who wishes to know more about ASD's. My son has Aspergers and i now know how to deal with certain situations. Fantastic book!
The Definitive Guide to Aspergers June 27, 2010 Lovely Treez (Belfast, N Ireland) It's hard to write a guide to a condition whose symptoms tend to vary so much but I think Tony Attwood as come as close to perfection as humanly possible with this latest edition. It's not something you will read in one sitting - it will be, as one reviewer as commented, a bible-like volume, filled with useful information to which you will constantly return and highlight and turn down corners and basically abuse in the totally opposite way to which my fiction books are treated! All teachers and professionals who work with children should have a copy of this, all older relatives of children with ASD should have access to a copy and all GPs/Medical professionals should immediatedly point newly diagnosed Aspies and their carers in the direction of this book.
Covering all aspects of Asperger syndrome. June 6, 2010 Ms. S. Parsons (England.) When i first saw the size of this book my first reaction was one of hesitation. My instant thought was that this book is going to be full of technical hyborbole and will not relate to me on any level.
Although the author is clearly rather technical in his expressions and all the information he provides i also sense a very human approach, a sensitivity underneath the surface that expresses itself formally yet earnestly and with real honesty. As with other books about Aspergers syndrome you will find much reference to the psychological and somewhat technical basis behind the occurance af Aspergers syndrome within a person. This overly formal approach can be extremely off putting and yet Tony Attwood manages to create the human and feeling angle by being completely honest and forthright about his experiences of Aspergers syndrome over the years with his many patients.
The technical aspect thus becomes a refreshing oversight that is fundamentally neccessary and evident throughout the whole book whilst relating personal experiences in a way you can easily identify with.
the complete guide to aspergers symdrome...tony attwood March 26, 2010 Mary Hall (England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As a parent with an adult son who has never been diagnosed as having aspergers, and a husband who I suspected also as having this condition, I recommend it to anyone needing enlightenment.
It is written in a way that is easy to read. A summary at the end of each chapter helps to recap and condense the information covered in the chapter or the reader can read first the summary to get an overview of what the chapter contains. Everything is covered...vocabulary explained, other references and resources pinpointed.
For myself this book has been and still is very helpful with our family situation.
I will read other books referred to in this one, but I suspect this is probably the most comprehensive without being daunting.
Thank you Tony Attwood.
