great guide July 16, 2010 Karen of Sandbach (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book really helped us plan a 3 day trip to London. We certainly got the most out of our 3 days and everyone commented how much we had seen.
The book allows you to plan sights to see in the same area so you are not traipsing great distnaces which easily tires little ones out. And you can use the book to plan food breaks (so important for kids!)
I can see us going back to London every year as this book will keep us busy with things to see and do for years!
Really useful excellent guide June 6, 2010 S. Chalkley (Sussex, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have found this book invaluable when taking my 6 year old child for days out in London. It is packed full of child-friendly places to go and things to do with more detailed information than other guides I have seen. We have discovered places and activities through this book that we would never have done without it. I think it is well worth the money.
"with kids" - NOT for children August 2, 2009 Robert Bradley (Royal Berkshire) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
A friend brought this book over from the States when she came to visit us. Reading it we couldn't believe the author actually had children - although apparently she does.
The theme of the book is not so much what children will enjoy doing in London, but rather what you can do in London with kids in tow. It is written purely from an adult's perspective with little or no thought as to what 'real' children will actually like, or be like.
An example, Hamleys has been rated "overrated" although the author does grudgingly agree that "kids will be so in awe of the 35,000 or so toys and games...that they won't notice the cynicism behind it all". Compare this to the 2 stars given to John Lewis (a department store) and 3 stars to Mamas and Papas ("basically a nusery department store").
If you want a book about what you will enjoy in London whilst travelling with your kids - please buy this book. But if you are looking to make your trip to London enjoyable for your children - do yourself a favour and give this one a miss.
Good guide, not quite as well organised as the competition January 19, 2009 Alan Judge (Dublin, Ireland) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought both this book and the Cadogan "Take the Kids" guide (Take the Kids: London (Cadogan Guides)) while planning a trip to London. If I was shopping again, I'd probably still buy both, but I have a slight preference for the Cadogan guide. I think the layout is slightly better and it's easier to find things. The Frommer guide has a slightly more prose-like feel.
Both are still far better than the traditional guides if you're travelling with Children.
clear, simple and extremely heplful August 14, 2006 Joel Sorrell (Madison, WI) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
My copy is BATTERED after a month in London with my wife and kids. So I'm buying a new one. Going on holiday with your children (mine are three and four) is great but can be a nightmare. A guide is essential, and this guide has done everything I asked of it. Cheap, good food, interesting little visits to places I'd never known existed (the Peter Pan statue for example), help with all the logistical pitfalls that exist when you're in a big city with little people... If you're coming to the UK with munchkins, you could do worse than consider this book. A gem.
